Q. Should I shuffle the Letter cards before the first game?

A. Yes, of course. The cards do not come pre-shuffled from the factory and should be shuffled before you play your first game. It is prudent to shuffle the Letter cards before every game. You should also remove and shuffle the Derivation™ and Action cards before the first game. During play put the used cards at the end of the deck. That way when you get back to the same blue/red card you can flip it over and use the other side. We put a different color on each side of the cards to help you track which cards you have used.

Q. Is there a time limit for people to write their Suggestion?

A. No. This was an issue of much debate. Ultimately, we observed that players will impose their own appropriate time limits for their levels by rushing players they believe are too slow. This strikes the right balance between keeping the game moving and giving players’ time to be creative with their answers.

Q. A player came up with another viable answer for an abbreviation in the game. Should it count?

A. Ah this is where the fun begins. The answer on the card is considered the correct answer but as the instructions state, “there are shades of grey” in Derivation. In these cases, and all other disputes, the person whose turn it is gets to decide.
